York Glass was incorporated in 1975. Formerly it was a partnership called Norman York Glass Co. and was run by Norm York and his wife (Bene) since 1953.
Prior to that Norm’s father Ernest ran the business of “E York & Sons”. Ernest came to Mildura in 1919 as an employee of Duffs (Melbourne) to install shopfronts.
In 1975 the business was run by Norman’s son Gordon and his brother-in-law Peter Saunder. From 1975 to 1984 York Glass operated at 53 Eleventh St, Mildura (Stone Shapes nowdays). There was also a branch in Berri in South Australia.
Today the business operates from 21 Eleventh Street. Peter Saunder and his wife Colleen owned and ran the business since Gordon and his english wife migrated to London in 1986.
In July 2001 the business was sold to Deon and Dianne Barry who were originally from Swan Hill. Deon has been involved in the building industry for the past 20 years and offers much experience to the existing team.
York Glass is located in Mildura, Victoria, and services Mildura, Sunraysia, Swan Hill and Wentworth. The business currently has a staff of 15 with a total of over 150 years experience fabricating aluminium windows and shopfronts.
